Vintage beach hut

I have a new obsession. I am DESPERATE for my own beach hut so I can decorate it and then laze around in and around it for weeks on end every summer. Bliss.

We went to Southwold beach last week for a fleeting visit on our way home from a forest cabin break in Norfolk. Southwold is so traditionally English and has such a sweet, unspoilt promenade and beach front lined with colourful beach huts. As we walked down the promenade I have to be honest that I was far more interested in subtly glancing into every hut that we passed to check out the decor! I began imagining what my dream hut would look like inside, outside and what it would be called.

When I came home I did a quick google and there are surprisingly few images of beach hut interiors. That was until I came across the dreamiest, vintage interior of a hut belonging to artists Claire Fletcher and Peter Quinnell that is located in St. Leonard’s.  Oh. My. Word.

A workspace makeover

As you know, I love room makeovers. So when I saw the ‘before’ shots of Holly Marder’s Dutch studio space over on Avenue Lifestyle, I rushed to see the the changes that had been made.

The ‘after’ shots left me in a dreamy daze! Cool colour scheme, hanging planters, vintage rug, all set against a light, bright canvas…I was in heaven.

Weekend Inspiration

Happy weekend everybody! I’ve been longing for more light this week and so I wanted to show you this Dutch home that was converted from a children’s nursery. The enormous windows and doors flood the space with natural light, which bounces around the home from the white floors and walls. The choice of furniture is a clever mix of modern and antique, colourful and natural, all of which can shine against the beautiful backdrop of this unique building.

Like all homes that I show you here, you may not like everything about this house but the point is to search out the elements that inspire you, that you can relate to, that make you want to recreate them in your own home. Personally, I feel quite inspired by the collection of dining chairs, the collection of green glass on top of the drawers and the arrangement of art. How about you?

Weekend Inspiration

I first spotted the Dutch home of Editor of 101 woonideeenKim van Rossenberg, on one of my favourite blogs, My Scandinavian Home. It caught my eye because I’m always quite fascinated by the monochrome look and how it must feel to live with the look. But also, I really like the touches around the home, that don’t scream ‘Christmas’ but subtly create a festive feel.

Anyhoo, let me know what you think – could you live with this colour scheme? And are you all the about the big tree, tinsel and red, green and gold or does this understated decorating appeal? Either way, I hope you can find some inspiration for your own home…

Cape Cod cottage

Happy weekend everyone! What have you got planned? I think we’re going to have quite a lazy one as it’s been such a busy and full-on fortnight. Maybe just a trip down to Maltby Street market on Saturday morning, cosy up in the afternoon and then a bit of making on Sunday. Bliss.

I’ve got a beautiful house for you to look at today, which transported me away from dreary, cold London to the prospect of simple summer living in a part of America I long to visit. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but sometimes you can find inspiration in homes where you would never expect to find it. This Cape Cod cottage was built in 1807 and belongs to Remodelista‘s Justine Hand, who has tried to keep all of the original features of the cottage in tact. She has furnished the cottage minimally and instead, added floral arrangements to every room to bring life into every corner.

There is so much that I take away from a home like this: the colour palette, the beauty of simple furniture, pared back clutter-free living. I love it. What do you think?
