Styling Spring at{mine}

It seems like a life time ago that Charlotte and I teamed up with at{mine} to organise our second Styling the Seasons event. We had so much fun getting eight wondrous at{mine} members on board to style up some beautiful Bloom and Wild flowers in April and then choose their favourite styled surfaces from nearly 300 entries – such a touch job! We really were blown away by so many truly beautiful entries.

The judges and winners were then invited to a Spring floral workshop led by the super lovely and talented florist Caroline of Wild Rubus. Armed with more Bloom and Wild flowers we all set to work creating pretty Spring wreaths and May day posies at Homemade London, that runs bespoke creative events.

The beautiful Katharine Peachey was there with her film camera to capture the floral chaos and prettiness of the day. These photographs fill me with joy as it was such a lovely gathering and so, so lovely to put faces to those little squares of Styling the Seasons joy from Instagram!

Styling the seasons – May

A bit of a soppy Styling the Seasons this month as May is birthday month for my husband-type, Jules, so it’s all about birthday breakfast in bed in our newly made-over bedroom.

I am guilty of taking those closest to me for granted sometimes but Jules and I have had such a tough year dealing with what has felt like a life’s worth of problems, which has really made me focus on what an amazing partner he is and how lucky I am to have him and the positivity he brings to every problem we face.

So, I want to make his birthday this year extra special and it always starts with breakfast in bed. It usually consists of croissants stuffed with ham and cheese and a good coffee. I have added flowers left over from our Styling Spring At Mine event in a little bottle Jules bought me recently “because it looks like an apothecary bottle”. Do you know that’s how we met? We were in a bar with mutual friends and he was drinking beer from a really nice bottle. I mentioned to him that I liked the bottle (thinking it would look really nice with flowers in it, not paying him any attention whatsoever – ha!) and he replied that he thought it looked like an apothecary bottle. That was it, he had my attention and I had a name for my blog 😉

The month of May also signals the beginning of warm days. We always have Jules’s birthday party outside and it is usually beautiful weather. Therefore, I have styled my Coco bed for warmer nights. Gone is the winter duvet and in its place is a lightweight summer duvet. My new gorgeous Lazy Linen from Loaf is absolutely perfect for the Summer months as it is wonderfully cool and light. The heavenly texture of this crushed Belgian linen and the dusty pink Scrunch cushion are perfect for the brighter mood that this time of year brings with it. I have also added a flat sheet, which feels so luxurious and is really practical for when it gets too hot.

I had finished taking photos and turned around for a few seconds and look who was ‘asleep’ next to the croissant! The new rule with the linen sheets is no Otto on the bed but he’s not in favour of that rule, as you can see.

“Actually, I am awake, if there’s any of that Croissant going begging…” And, no, I couldn’t resist that sad little face, he got a piece of croissant in the end.

Charlotte and I would love for you to join us this month and style up a surface in your home and show what May means to you. Style your dining table, a shelf, hallway table, balcony, sideboard, kitchen worktop – anything you like. Either blog about your styled surface or post an image of it on any social media platform and use the #StylingTheSeasons hashtag.

I can’t wait to see what this month brings…

Oooooh, by the way, you can now buy some of the lovely products that I use or recommend in my posts directly through my blog. I will be officially launching the shop on Wednesday so I will tell you more about it then, as well as giving one lucky reader £150 to spend, if you buy something on that launch day.

For today, I’ve picked out some lovely boards like the one I have used in today’s post – if you like the look of any of them, click to see more details, add to cart and then buy it right here! Price includes delivery.

Thank you so much to everyone who has taken part and made our judges’ job extremely difficult – Charlotte and I found ourselves on a sofa in Habitat last night agonising over our choices (we must have looked pretty strange!!).

So, without further rambling, drum roll please for our winners….

We are so sorry not to have been able to pick more winners as there really were so many beautiful entries but we are already hatching plans for a summer event (we’re thinking succulents and ceramics…) so there will be more opportunities to get together, I hope!

Styling Spring At Mine – April

Welcome to this month’s very special Styling the Seasons! When Charlotte and I first met to discuss working on a project together one of the things we really wanted to do was meet other like-minded creatives. That’s why our first event Crafting the Seasons at Liberty was born and it was such an amazing success that we just had to organise a Spring event. So when the lovely ladies behind at{mine}, an online community for home and design lovers to share their real homes, approached us about collaborating on an event we jumped at the chance.

Today, we would like to welcome you join in with #StylingSpringAtMine. All you have to do is style a surface in your home to represent what April means to you as you normally would, but we have brought together a special group of at{mine} member judges to each choose their favourite. The judges and the winners will then be invited to our Spring floral workshop at the gorgeous Homemade London on April 29th 10.30-12.30pm, led by Caroline of Wild Rubus who will be teaching us all how to make Spring wreaths with beautiful blooms supplied by Bloom and Wild and May Day posy making with Lou Archell. So exciting!

You need to:

1) Style any surface in your home to represent what April means to you

2) Post a shot of your styled surface on any social media or blog about it by April 15th

3) Use the hashtag #StylingSpringAtMine so we can see your entry

4) You need to be free to attend the workshop on the morning of April 29th in central London.

You can also join at{mine} HERE and post your styled surface in the Styling the Seasons category – Ia and Helena, the founders of at{mine} will choose their winner from this category so get joining! There is also so much wonderful interiors inspiration to be had so I would definitely recommend signing up. The special invite code is StylingSpringAtMine.

Judges:

Here is a list of our wonderful judges (do pop over to see their styled surfaces using Bloom and Wild flowers for inspiration). Charlotte, at{mine} and I will also be choosing a winner each so we are looking for 13 winners in total:

Emma Harris – A Quiet Style

Emily Quinton – Makelight

Teri Muncey – The Lovely Drawer

Cate St. Hill – Cate St. Hill

Jeska Hearne – Lobster and Swan

Heather Young – Growing Spaces

Sarah-Lou Kimmer – Lapin Blu

Lou Archell – Little Green Shed

Olivia – Bloom and Wild

Caroline – Wild Rubus

And now for my April styling. April marks the beginning of Spring for me; warmer days, colour in the trees, in the garden and the parks (no more muddy dog walks and daily baths for Otto!). Coats are beginning to be put away, windows are open and everything feels lighter and brighter. Therefore, I wanted my styled surface to be full of flowers and colour. Unfortunately, I had to create my post a few weeks ago as I’ve had an op in the last couple of weeks but I did break bed rest rules to make a mini-post with my beautiful Bloom and Wild flowers that you can see here.

For this post I popped over to Columbia Road flower market on a Sunday morning a while ago to gather armfuls of Spring blooms, blossom branches and Eucalyptus and came home to make a wreath, which is what gave me the idea to make that part of our Spring event (as I realised it’s more difficult than it looks and I’d love to be taught how to make one properly). Before I made the wreath I wasn’t quite sure which surface I was going to style. I laid out an old sheet onto my dining table, plonked all the flowers I had bought into a big enamel jug of water and made my wreath. I hung it on the wall and as I cleared away some of the debris I walked back to the table and it all looked so pretty that I decided to photograph it as it was. Even though it is relatively ‘un-styled’ this table of cuttings, pots, secateurs and colourful flowers rather does sum up the way I see April – it’s all about a new lease of life, colour and pottering about with seeds, flowers and plants.

I cut the heads off a few of the flowers to stick into the wreath. As they wilt I can easily remove them and replace them with new flowers.

A rather ‘un-styled’ Styling the Seasons post but I do spend a lot of time in April trying to bring the garden back to life.
