Perfect picnicware

Do you know that it is national picnic week (obviously the weather didn’t get the memo)? I LOVE a good picnic no matter whether it is in the local park, in a field in the countryside or on the beach there is nothing nicer than being outside and sharing a lovely basket full of treats – although, if you are anything like me I want to eat it as soon as we reach the destination, even if it isn’t lunchtime yet.

I remember having picnics with my grandparents when I spent summers with them down in Devon. They always insisted on eating their sandwiches out of the car though; I don’t think sitting on the ground was particularly easy for them at that point – funny how that has only just occurred to me. I also love a good winter picnic and on a few occasions we have cooked fresh pasties in the morning and packed them up and taken them to Richmond park for big winter walks with warm hunks of pastry – yum!

I always look forward to the first picnic of the year and we have a couple planned this month as we are off to Norfolk in a couple of weeks. Here are some of my perfect picnic picks with a little coastal theme…

Perfect picnicware | Apartment Apothecary

1. Linen napkins – The Linen Works 2. Bamboo fibre cups – clas ohlson 3. Coastal hamper – John Lewis 4. Bamboo fibre plates – clas ohlson 5. Cool bag – clas ohlson 6. Kilner salad jars  – Lakeland 7. Tiffin box – John Lewis 8. Alpaca blanket – Urbanara 9. Enamelware – buy it in your local market 10. Beach mat – clas ohlson

You don’t want to be laden down with heavy plates and cups but I am always aware of going through too many paper and plastic crockery and cutlery. These bamboo cups and plates are brilliant! Very light weight and nice to eat off and can be reused over and over. The Kilner salad jars are genius – the salad dressing goes in to the metal cup under the lid. You’ve got to have a trad picnic basket but a cool bag is just as important as warm drinks on a hot day don’t quite cut it, do they? I love a good picnic blanket but I always find food and drink gets spilt all over fit so a beach mat works well to place the food on as it can be wiped clean.

Let’s hope we can squeeze a picnic in this week between the rain showers!

I saw those bamboo plates and cups in Sweden – great that they’ve made their way over here. They almost look and feel like really expensive porcelain in real life. Hurry back sun so we can get our picnics on! x
