For my mum

This week has been crazy busy but in the middle of the chaos I managed to sneak in a lovely little afternoon at my mum’s house for an early Mother’s day celebration. We were joined by the beautiful Katharine Peachey and her brand new baby Peach and whilst he gurgled and snoozed we ate and laughed and exchanged a gift or two. Katharine took some beautiful photos of me and my mum that day that I would love to share with you.

I was born in London and we moved to the house in south west London where my mum still lives when I was about 12. I’m lucky that both my parents and one of my sisters all live so close to me and I can call on them whenever I need to. I’m also lucky because my mum is amazing; it is her 70th birthday next month but you would never believe it if you met her. As far back as I can remember she has always been the life and soul of the party and her cackling laughter is legendary. She is also a complete beauty.

My mum is not interested in routine or getting caught up in the boring details of life: she loves to travel, she loves spending time with her friends but more than anything she loves me and my two sisters (and Phoebe, her dog, who is our fourth sister!). It’s easy to take for granted how lucky we are to have a mum who would literally do anything for us.

We have an exciting long weekend planned for my mum’s 70th in a couple of weeks but I also wanted to give her a special gift this Mother’s Day and this Hepburn Mk II Pink Hearts radio from VQ, that is being sold exclusively in John Lewis, makes the perfect present. I now need to figure out a way of explaining the whole Blue Tooth speaker thing to her 😉

If you would like to win a VQ radio to give your mum you can comment on this blog post or on social media using the hashtag #MyHeroMum. Just tell us about your mum and why she deserves her own Pink Hearts radio. You could even share a photo of her, too! The winner will be selected at random on Sunday 6th March and the competition will close at 12pm on the day.

Awwww how lovely! My mum had a fall at new year and broke her arm and pelvis. She’s such a trooper and she’d love that radio xR

As always, I’m so bowled over by the way Katharine takes photos – the one I saw on Instagram was utterly lovely and so are these! It’s such a special thing to have captured in a photo the clearly lovely relationship you have with your mum and also how absolutely radiant and beautiful you both are. The radio is very lovely too 🙂

Our mums are a similar age and I love that this generation of women have redefined what 70 looks like and totally buried the vile notion that 70 is for wearing polyester and hair rollers! My mum’s face now has lots of laughter lines; her skin glows; and her wardrobe of clothes is one that I covet – it’s a mix that makes me feel happy and more relaxed about embracing the signs of ageing that I can see in myself.

My own mum, despite taking rather a battering in life of late, is one of the kindest and most beautiful (inside and out) people I know.

Such beautiful pics of your incredible mum. And a very special blog post…. Happy days…. That famous laugh has certainly brightened up many parties I’ve been too. Not only is she a wonderful mum to you and the sisters she’s a very best friend to my amazing mum and a second mum to me! What a wonderful gift we’ve had to have our mums as such positive influences in our worlds…. Lots to live up to – lots to be grateful for- lots of love xxxx

My mum would adore this radio! She loves listening to music while she cleans and cooks. I adore her so much for working full time as a nurse (she’s 61 now!), but also helping me with childcare so I can go to work too. Without her help I really would be stuck. Thanks mum x

Lovely post. I seriously miss my mum on Mothers Day. She too was fun and had a laugh that lifted you off your feet to a cloud of happiness. Every time. Elinor x

    Hooray for mums I say!

My mum is in her mid-70’s and travels extensively for a couple of months each year (usually somewhere hot and sunny). She books an open air ticket and books her first couple of nights accommodation and then finds something else whilst she is over there! Amazing.

She is an avid gardener and allotment holder and thinking nothing of carting a huge pile of manure or top soil with a spade and wheelbarrow.

She was diagnosed with breast cancer last year. Luckily caught early so only required surgery and hormone treatment (not radiotherapy or chemo)but this hasn’t stopped her travelling and enjoying life.

She’s my inspiration – I want to be like her when I grow up!

Mums are the best. Mine loves nothing more than her two daughters and two grand-daughters and a heart radio would remind her every day of how much we love her! #MyHeroMum

My Mum is the most selfless person I know! She always puts others before herself. It would be lovely to treat her!

Oh wow your Mum really is a beauty, so now we know where you get it from?!
To see my Mum I would have to cross a big ocean! A trip that needs a lot of planning down to the smallest details…she lives in Florida. My Mum is 73 now and gives her time to helping a charity called ‘Habitat for Humanity’ they build houses for the underprivileged, she even climbs up on the roof.
You must treasure everymoment and hold your Mum close, I wish I could!
lots of love to you both

My mum would adore this Pink Hearts radio. She really enjoys music and baking (they’re her two passions!) and I can easily imagine going home for a visit and finding her in the kitchen, happily baking away while listening to the radio. #MyHeroMum

My Mum is my rock. She was there for me when I was in hospital for 8 months and now I’m at that age (22) where we now go out for cocktails and gossip about my love life, and guess what? It isn’t awkward at all! #MyHeroMum

My Mum has always been my best friend.
From the moment 20 years ago that I told her age 15 that I think I might be gay and she just told me everything is going to be alright and hugged me…..and she was right….mums do know best.
I recently moved back to the UK after a year working in Australia and I am treating her and pampering her to make up for the year we missed.
The hearts on the radio say it all
    Love you mum x
